But tests prove that such drives are actually slower than standard laptop hard disks. Apple’s top-end MacBook Air features a 128GB SSD and costs 40 per cent more than a similar model that has a 120GB hard drive....

Dell laptops to get ‘white space’ wireless chips Dell is to add new radio chips to laptops that will provide connectivity over the unused television spectrum known aswhite spaces. On Tuesday, regulators at the US Federal Communications Commission voted to open up white spaces, the unused portion of the spectrum from 512MHz to 698MHz assigned to broadcast TV. Dell, HP and Google were among the companies that fought to open up the white spaces, which will provide an additional broadband option for users, especially in rural areas....

Botnets to attack smartphones in 2009 The same week one of the world’s worst spam operations isbeing shut down, security researchers are warning the next big threat may not be for PCs at all – but rather for mobile phones.
