Ant-Man and the Wasp post credit scene explained
This has been Marvel’s biggest year ever, with the game-changingBlack Pantherfollowed by the first part of the MCU’s mega mash-up finale (at least for now…),Avengers: Infinity War. The final part of that set is Ant-Man and the Wasp, a smaller-scale spectacle that closes out 2018 for Marvel – just leaving us with a long eight months to wait for Captain Marvel to roll around in March 2019.
The film is available indigital versionsand onBlu-ray and DVDin the US, and after a lengthy we wait we can now also buy it ondigitalordischere in the UK.

It’s a sad moment when the credits roll on Ant-Man and the Wasp, giving us a long wait for more Marvel (well, at least until theAvengers: Infinity War Blu-raydrops of course…) but of course when it comes to Marvel movies, the beginning of the credits isn’t necessarily the end of the movie – so you might find yourself wondering if it’s worth staying in your seat.
Is there a post credit scene?
The answer is yes, to the surprise of absolutely nobody. More importantly, unlike some recent Marvel films (we’re looking at you, Infinity War) Ant-Man and the Wasp brings back the double credit sting, with one mid-credit scene and another right at the end. Read on if you want to find out what happens – and what it means for the future of the MCU.
What does the Ant-Man and the Wasp end credit scene mean?
First up, just to be clear, there arespoilersfrom here on out – and not just for Ant-Man and the Wasp, but also for Avengers: Infinity War, which ties in to the end of the new movie. Consider yourself warned.
So, first up is the mid-credit scene, which is really the important one. After a whole movie that skirts around the question of exactly when it’s set in theMarvel universe timeline, the mid-credit scene answers it definitively: while the majority of the movie takes place before Infinity War, this brief scene seemingly occurs during that movie’s finale (which raises questions about why none of them had stepped in to help…) as we see the effects of the Thanos snap from the finale of Infinity War, which vaporised half of all living beings.
It happens as Scott dives back into the Quantum Realm to retrieve some ‘quantum healing particles’ (we reckon you should keep an eye on those whenAvengers 4rolls around), with every member of the Pym/Van Dyne family vaporised by the Infinity Guantlet, leaving Ant-Man himself trapped alone in the Quantum Realm – something that director Peyton Reed has since explained was intended to undermine how neatly the main film wraps up its plotlines.
That explains why the Wasp isn’t joining the big team-up movie, but does leave us wondering how on earth Ant-Man is going to get back to full size in order to join the Avengers and help save the day.
So that scene is definitely worth waiting for. But what about the second post-credit moment? In familiar Marvel fashion, that one’s a little less essential. It cuts back to Scott’s house, where we get a brief glimpse of a TV highlighting the chaos of the Thanos snap, but the real focus is on one of the giant ants banging out a sweet drum solo. And, uh, that’s actually it, except for a brief ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp will return’ tag which holds for a second before a question mark appears at the end.
So it’s a funny moment, but arguably not worth an extra five minutes of trying to hold your bladder after a cinema-size soft drink. You won’t miss any plot developments if you duck out once the first end credit scene has finished.
