Apple rumoured to announce iPhone 12 event date this week
We still don’t know the date for Appke’s annual flagship iPhone event, but Bloomberg’s tech reporter Mark Gurmansaid on Twitterthat the company will announce a date this week.
Usually held in September, Apple has still not said when it will unveil theiPhone 12handsets. The company’s preparation has been affected by the global coronavirus pandemic, and the release of the phones is said to be delayed.
Apple launched the iPhone 11 series on 10 September 2019. If Gurman is correct, then Apple will be announcing the iPhone 12 event around a year later, with it to be held later in the month or at the start of October.
I wouldn’t get too excited about rumors of new Apple products appearing this week. More likely I think: an announcement of the upcoming (of course virtual) September iPhone/Apple Watch event.
Gurman believes that Apple will announce the iPhone and Apple Watch during the virtual event later in September, going against Apple leakerJon Prosser’s assertion that Apple will announce the Apple Watch Series 6 and a new iPad via a press release on Tuesday 9 September.
Apple press release is currently scheduled for Tuesday (September 8) at 9:00am EST — though, I should note that it’s not locked in until the press has been briefed, day of.
I’ll tweet early that morning to update you if it changes.
Prosser is not always accurate with his leaks, but his announcement dates have been right as of late. Gurman has gone out of his way here, not for the first time, to claim Prosser is wrong. We have only a day to wait and see if Apple does indeed drop a press release tomorrow.
It’s an interesting situation where a traditional journalist is disputing the claims of a YouTube leaker. The two have more in common than you might think, with internal sources at Apple. Gurman leaks as a journalist via a publication, whereas Prosser does it solo on Twitter and via YouTube.
Either way, we are excited for the iPhone 12, even if the 12 Pro models are unlikely to ship until October or even November.
