Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch earbuds have 50 hour battery life

Following on from the excellent five-starMelomania 1headphones, Cambridge Audio has unveiled the Melomania Touch earbuds with a whopping 50-hour battery life.

The audio firm describes them as an evolution of the Melomania headphones with “with intuitive touch controls, stunning sound performance and world-class battery life.”

There are various upgrades, but the standout must be the crazy 50-hour battery life, outpacing theRHA TrueConnect 2at 44 hours. This is thanks to a low power mode meaning the earbuds can go for nine hours and be charged by the case four times.

Even in High Performance Audio Mode, they can still last for 33 hours.

As the name suggests, Cambridge Audio has replaced the physical buttons with touch sensitive ones. The firm says this makes it easier to do things like pause music, skip tracks, change volume and take hands-free calls.

Sonically, the Melomania Touch offer 7mm graphene drivers, Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX and AAC codecs and a High Performance Audio Mode that uses the same method of amplification found in the company’s award-winning CX range of Hi-Fi amplifiers.

Cambridge Audio promises a “genuine step forward in sonic performance,” with “deeper controlled bass, realistic voices and clearer highs.”

New to the table is the Melomania app for iOS and Android. You can customise EQ settings, find a missing earbud and check battery levels. There’s also support for Siri and Google Assistant.

Another new feature is Transparency Mode. The Melomania Touch earbuds don’t offer active noise cancelling but this mode allows you to hear what’s going on around you without taking them out of your ears.

It uses microphones on the outside of the earbuds which can also be used for phone calls with Qualcomm’s Clear Voice Capture (cVc) noise-cancelling technology.

Other features include a lightweight 6g design with IPX4 water and sweat protection, USB-C charging and a selection of ‘fins’ that allow you to “find the perfect, snug fit”.

When the Melomania Touch earbuds arrive, they will cost £129.95 (US$149.95). However, you’ll have to wait until 1 January 2021 when you can get them directly fromCambridge AudioorAmazon.
