Honor confirms new Ryzen 4000 MagicBook for IFA launch
Honor has teased its plans for September’s IFA tradeshow, confirming that it will launch a new MagicBook laptop equipped with a Ryzen 4000 processor, along with a rugged smartwatch and a global launch for the Honor Pad 6 and X6 tablets.
It’s a pretty safe bet that the laptop will be the Honor MagicBook Pro, which launched in China earlier this year with a choice between the Ryzen 5 4600H and Ryzen 7 4800H. That laptop also boasts a 16.1in display with 100% sRGB gamut, and up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, making it a moderately meaty creator device – though the lack of a discrete GPU will be sure to put some off.
A western launch for the laptop would be welcome though. The MagicBook 14 – equipped with a Ryzen 5 3500U – is one of thebest value laptopsaround right now at £549, andwe gave it a glowing review. A more powerful version with souped up specs and a slick design could be a real challenger at the more premium end of the market.
The company also confirmed that the Honor Pad 6 and Pad X6 will be getting a global launch – the first worldwide release for any Android tablet. Launched in China in July, these budget-friendly Android tablets differ mostly in display quality – the X6 only offers a 9.7in 1200×800 screen, while the 6 has a larger 10.1in FHD+ panel.
Both support the Honor Magic-Pencil stylus, and the Pad 6 also comes with an LTE option. As ever, the challenge for Honor’s Android devices is that they now ship without Google Play Services, so app support remains limited.
Honor has also spent the last few days teasing the launch of a new rugged smartwatch to follow up the fashion-focusedMagicWatch 2, likely to be called the Honor Watch GS Pro. Unlike the laptop and tablets this will be a genuinely new arrival at IFA and so we don’t know much about it, except that it will “be the ‘adventure companion’ in outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain climbing with navigation and other features.”
Honor’s IFA press conference will take place in Berlin at 10:25am BST on 4 September. IFA is one of the few tradeshowsgoing ahead with a physical event this year, but it will run at a drastically reduced capacity with a new format to suit social distancing regulations.
