HP’s ZBook Firefly is a genuine MacBook Pro rival
HP’s lineup of PCs and laptops has steadily grown in recent years, but never has there been more emphasis on portability.
The ZBook Firefly continues this trend, described by the company as ‘the smallest and lightest ZBook ever’.
The ZBook line is generally reserved for power users, with the likes of the Create and Studio delivering high-end specs with a price tag to match.
Interestingly, HP describes the ZBook Firefly as a ‘mobile workstation’ as opposed to laptop, implying that this stellar performance can be distilled into a lightweight and modern design.
Everything we know so far appears to back that up. Powered by a 10th-gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and 32 or 64GB of RAM, the Firefly also comes with an SSD of up to 2TB.
HP extensively compared the Firefly to the latest 13in MacBook Pro, its laptop only being available in 14in and 15in sizes. In particular, the company wanted to highlight its higher max screen brightness, more powerful Nvidia Quadro graphics and apparent longer battery life, all within the same 1.4kg body.
Elsewhere, there are stereo speakers tuned by Bang & Olufsen, as well as a new quiet keyboard and intelligent cooling system. The 720p webcam can also be physically disabled, with a built-in privacy shutter for total peace of mind.
Unlike theEliteBook G7, there are just two models to choose from:
All versions of the ZBook Firefly are expected to be available this August, with prices starting at US$1099.
