Is this how Samsung will tame the look of its huge S20 camera module?
For the past couple of years, we’ve slowly seen more cameras cropping up on smartphones. From the three on the Huawei P20 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro to the five on the Nokia 9 PureView, it’s not unusual to see manufacturers come up with new designs to stuff all these lenses in.
Samsung’sGalaxy S20series has pretty much leaked in full with an S20, S20 Plus and S20 Ultra all expected with various 4G and 5G versions. But this latest info from tech leakerIshan Agarwalsuggests Samsung has a neat trick up its sleeve to take your eye away from the huge rectangular design – by shading it in to make it appear squarer:
This image accurately represents how the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G Camera setup looks like! It will be dual shade (grey matte like + black), and it honestly looks good (better than what I tried to make here lol). Yeah, 100X would be printed besides Periscope Camera.pic.twitter.com/YwbYWZmvyg
Agarwal says the above image is the S20 Ultra 5G’s camera module complete with Samsung’s new 100x zoom option. By using grey shading to isolate the periscope zoom lens, the three other lenses and flash sit in what the eye sees as a squircle.
We were a tad worried camera bumps on phones in 2020 would be comically enormous. They still likely will be, but this is how Samsung is approaching the problem.
