LG ThinQ Smart Speaker: What we know so far
LG doesn’t wait until Las Vegas to reveal its new gadgets for 2018 and has already unveiled a range of new speakers for CES including the ThinQ Smart Speaker among others.
As you’ve probably noticed,smart speakersare all the rage with everyone and their mother jumping on the bandwagon followingAmazon’s lead with the Echo range. Now LG is joining the party with the ThinQ Smart Speaker.
LG said it will be: “showcasing superior, clearer and smarter lineup of premium audio products that promises to change the way people think about home speakers.” The range includes the PK series portable speaker complete with lights and the SK10Y soundbar.

Price and availability
We’re told that the ThinQ Smart Speaker will be available to buy in April and although there’s no pricing just yet, it’s likely that the ThinQ speaker will be around a similar cost to rivals from the likes ofSonyandSonos.
They cost around £200 and we think this is about right for LG’s entry.
Specs and features
LG hasn’t gone into details about the specs of the ThinQ Smart Speaker but we do know some bits and pieces.
You can see what it looks like, unsurprisingly similar to others – a tall cylinder with touch controls on the top. As for the exact driver setup inside, we don’t know, but we’re guessing a dual-driver arrangement of a mid-range woofer and tweeter. LG promises “high-quality sound”.
LG has teamed up with Google on the speaker so the ThinQ has theGoogle Assistantbuilt-in for all the usual voice commands. You can play music by requesting it, change the volume, or simply ask Google questions etc.
However, the speaker is also an interface for other LG products – so you could ask the ThinQ speaker to switch on your LG air purifier.
LG has also stated that the device uses Meridian Audio technology and supports lossless High Resolution Audio.
