Nokia folding phone might arrive this year
OnePlus might not be making a folding phoneany time soon, but it looks like Nokia might be getting in on the action this year.
HMD, the firm that now uses the Nokia brand, is rumoured to be launching a foldable smartphone by the end of 2020 or early in 2021 otherwise. The leak comes viaNokiamob, not a site we’re familiar with but claims to have a reliable source.
Sadly we don’t have any other information about the possible phone. Not even a name or which way the screen will fold.
If Nokia does go down this path, it will have to compete with the likes of Samsung, Huawei and Motorola. TheRazris about to launch and theGalaxy Z Flipis rumoured to be unveiled on 11 February at Unpacked alongside theGalaxy S20range.
Both unfold vertically unlike the horizontal design of theGalaxy FoldandHuawei Mate X. Whether Nokia can come up with something unique remains to be seen but we would expect it to be similar to one of these devices.
We’ll have to wait for more leaks on the Nokia folding phone, butthe sitealso claims to have details about devices arriving much sooner.
It says HMD will announce four smartphones at MWC 2020, which takes place in Barcelona at the end of February. We’ll see the Nokia 8.2 5G, 5,2, 1.3 and a ‘Nokia Original Series’ device.
A bunch of possible new devices such as a mini projector, a selfie light, a power bank, a fitness tracker, two smartwatches and a mini printer have all been cancelled. A Nokia wearable of some kind might make an appearance at MWC, though.
The firm is also working on a new Nokia 9 model which might be the Nokia 9.1 or 9.2. This, however, will come after 20 June with a Snapdragon 865, a 48Mp front camera, bezel-less screen and no headphone jack.
