Peacock announces casting for Girls5eva and Rutherford Falls
NBC Peacockhas two big sitcoms planned for the future – Girls5eva from SNL and 30 Rock star, Tina Fey, and Rutherford Falls from creator ofBrooklyn Nine-Nineand The Good Place, Mike Schur. It’s now been announced that both shows have cast members attached to them.
Girls5eva will star Sara Bareilles as Dawn, a ‘former member of the short-lived 90s girl group Girls5eva’. In the present day Dawn is running her family’s Italian restaurant, but finds herself getting involved in a reunion with her former bandmates.
Bareilles is best known for her 2007 hit Love Song, and for being the star and musical composer for the Broadway show Waitress. Girls5eva will also feature Meredith Scardino as a writer and executive producer – Scardino has previously worked on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Colbert Report and SNL. Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, Jeff Richmond, David Miner, Eric Gurian will also serve as executive producers.
Meanwhile, Rutherford Falls has announced several new cast members. The show will star Ed Helms (who’ll also serve as executive producer) as Nathan Rutherford, a local legend who fights the relocation of a monument within his hometown of Rutherford Falls, a small place in Upstate New York that borders a Native American reservation.
Joining him in the cast will be Jana Schmieding as Reagan Wells, Nathan’s best friend since childhood. Reagan’s boss – Terry Tarbel – will be played by Michael Greyeyes, whilst Jesse Leigh will play Bobbie Yang, Nathan’s non-binary intern/executive assistant. Finally, Dustin Milligan will star as Josh Cogan, a reporter who has an interest in all the news about Rutherford Falls.
The show will feature Michael Schur, Ed Helms and Sierra Teller Ornelas as co-creators and executive producers, whilst Mike Falbo, David Miner and Morgan Sackett will also serve as executive producers.
Both shows will debut on NBC Peacock, which comes in three tiers. There’s Peacock Free, which features less content and limited episodes of exclusive originals. Then Peacock Premium is split into two price brackets – $4.99 for ad-supported viewing and $9.99 for ad-free viewing. Both grant you access to Peacock’s full library of content.
