Play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer free this weekend

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is letting absolutely anyone dive into the game’s multiplayer mode for free this weekend.

Starting from today, 24 April, and running until Monday 27 April, anyone will be able to dive into five maps from the game. That isn’t the full set, but other than that the experience won’t be restricted, with all of the game’s customisation and levelling unlocked and available to anyone who takes part.

That also means your progress should be saved in case you decide you’re a fan and want tograb the full gameafter the free weekend is done.

You’ll be able to access the free multiplayer through the client forCall of Duty: Warzone, the game’s battle royale spin-off – which is itself free-to-play all the time.

If you don’t have Warzone already you’ll need 80-100GB of free space for the client, which you can find simply by searching for ‘Warzone’ on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 store. If you’re on PC, you’ll need to use Battle.net to access the game, so download theBattle.net appfirst and then you should see Warzone in the sidebar.

Modern Warfare is the 2019 remake of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the 2007 title regularly held up as the high watermark of the influential shooter series. We gave the remake 4 stars inour review, calling it ‘a rough edges return to form’.

If you’d prefer a solo Call of Duty experience,Modern Warfare 2’s campaign mode also just got a remaster– rather than a full remake – which you canget right now on PS4, though PC and Xbox One owners have to wait until 30 April.
