Samsung appoints Roh Tae-moon as head of smartphone division
Samsung has announced Roh Tae-moon has taken over as its head of mobile from DJ Koh, the longstanding face of Samsung’s phone division (viaBloomberg).
Roh has been second in command to Koh for some time but has been at Samsung for two decades and is said to be responsible for the successful growth of the company’s low- and mid-range phone lines. Roh has also been instrumental in the general success of the Galaxy phone and tablet ranges.
DJ Koh, a mainstay of Samsung Unpacked events in recent years, will step back from the limelight but will still head up Samsung’s IT and mobile communications. The news means Roh could make his Unpacked debut on stage at thelaunch of the Galaxy S20 seriesin San Francisco on 11 February.
Samsung has managed to weather the storm from the 2016 Note 7 fiasco where people’s phones caught on fire through to last year’s delayed release of the Galaxy Fold due to manufacturing defects.
It will surely be the company’s hope that Roh will ensure Samsung does not bring any further marquee products to market with such issues.
