The excellent Sonos Playbar was the firm’s firstsoundbarand has been on sale since 2013. It doesn’t feel like that long ago but time flies and it’s about time a replacement was launched.
Sonos has since launched thePlaybaseandBeam(pictured) into its home theatre range but they were both different solutions to sit alongside the flagship Playbar.
Well according to a leak via9to5Mac, Sonos will indeed be replacing the Playbar with a new flagship soundbar very soon.
The new Playbar – name to be confirmed – will, according to the anonymous tipster, will includeDolby Atmossupport. This is a much requested feature from users and brings an immersive surround sound type experience to your living room from a single device.
There’s little other details about the rumoured soundbar but the other news is that Sonos will also be upgrading existing products, too.
The source suggests that Sonos will be launching refreshed versions of the Sub andPlay:5speakers. Again, details are light but these could include updated designs, better connectivity and improved sound quality.
Amazon has dropped the price of thePlay:5 down to £408, which may be an indication of stock clearance or perhaps a coincidence.
It seems likely that these new products will arrive in June to tie in with the new S2 app and operating system. Check out our guide to thebest Sonos speakers.
