This new Diesel smartwatch is quite the statement
Fossil Group has announced its latest smartwatch, the Diesel Axial. The company says it’s inspired by the Brutalist architectural movement with a big, bold metal bezel and silver and gold colour options.
At £339 in the UK it’s quite a pricy option, but that comes hand in hand with the Diesel brand.
The Axial runs on Google’s Wear OS and has the latest Snapdragon 3100 processor inside. It means that using the watch will be very similar to many other Wear OS smartwatches on the market as the software is largely identical even if the hardware is different.
Fossil has added two exclusive dial modes to make up for this. One obtusely called Information Tunnel gives the watch face a 3D effect while a Globe dial has an interactive globe that can display world times.
The watch also adds weather animations depending on your location to jazz up what can sometimes be a quite plain Wear OS aesthetic. Following on from other new smartwatches like theFossil Gen 5the Axial also has an improved loudspeaker and battery saver modes in an attempt to make it last more than the daylight hours.
With three strap options of black leather, blue denim and stainless steel, the Axial is somewhat a statement smartwatch, but it does give you the option to steer clear of the techy enthusiast look that many smartwatches opt for.
With 8GB storage, NFC for Google Pay and a heart rate sensor in a swimproof casing, the Diesel Axial goes on sale next month.
