Where to buy the Surface Duo in the UK
The Surface Duo is on sale in the UK now. Microsoft’s dual-screen Android phone arrived in Europe more than 16 months after it was first announced and five months after going on sale in the US. It represents the company’s first foray into smartphones since the ill-fated Windows Phone era, although there are concerns the now-outdated hardware will hold it back.
Alongside the UK and US, the Surface Duo is also available in many European countries and Canada. Here’s all you need to know about getting one for yourself.
How much does the Surface Duo cost?
Currently, the Surface Duo is available to buy for £1,349/€1,549. That gets you a model with 128GB of storage, while for 256GB you’ll pay £1,449/€1,649.
In North America, the Duo also dropped in price by US$400/CA$550. It means it’s now available for just US$999.99/CA$1319.99 (128GB) and US$1,099.99/CA$1,449.99 (256GB) respectively. The Duo was briefly available viaBuyDigandWootfor just $699, but it’s currently sold out at both retailers.
Where to buy the Surface Duo in the UK
The Surface Duo is now on sale in the UK, with theMicrosoft StoreandCurrys PC Worldselling the device. Since 12 March, it’s has also been available on contract viaEE, with plans starting at £77 per month with £100 upfront for 4GB of data. This also includes a year’s free Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, usually £59.99 per year.
An earlierWindows Latestarticle suggested BT were also keen to sell the Duo, and this may include both SIM-free and contract options. Nothing has been confirmed yet, though.
In addition to the Microsoft Store, the Duo is also available viaFNACandDartyin France, whileSaturnandMediaMarktare the go-to retailers in Germany.
What is the Surface Duo?
The Surface Duo is Microsoft’s very first foldable. It’s a dual-screen device, consisting of two 5.6in displays that can fold in on one another. The Duo is the first ever Microsoft device to run Android, although it’s been customised to have a more Windows-like look and feel. Some developers have optimised their apps to run across both screens, but more still need to be updated.
Microsoft doesn’t explicitly describe the Surface Duo as a smartphone, but the presence of a SIM card tray and advertised calling functionality puts in that category of devices.
